Frequently Asked Questions
About Therapy and Counselling
What should I expect when I call or send an email?
Once you have reached out to me, I will contact you to set up a time and date for a free phone consultation. During this call, you will have an opportunity to speak about your concerns and ask any questions you might have to help you feel more confident about your decision to receive therapy. If your primary concerns or current symptoms are not within my area of expertise, I will do my best to refer you to another professional who can help.
What should I expect in the first appointment?
The aim of the initial appointment is to start getting to know you, including your current issues and mental health history. This comprehensive mental health assessment involves a detailed intake to understand your unique background, history, presenting problems, and strengths (biopsychosocial+ model).
Based on the information provided, we will start to formulate a plan through a collaborative process to meet your specific mental health needs. After the assessment is complete, you will have a better idea of the issues that needs to be addressed, what type of therapy you would receive, and possible short- and long-term outcomes.
How long and how often are the therapy sessions?
Depending on your specific needs and goals, therapy can be short-term for a specific issue, or longer-term for a more in-depth journey.
Session frequency can vary depending on factors such as urgency and complexity. In all cases, therapy progress and goals will be reviewed, discussed, and determined collaboratively.
How is therapy delivered?
I offer teletherapy through video or phone. In some cases, I also provide in-person therapy at your home depending on distance, accessibility needs, and vaccination status.
Are services covered by OHIP?
Unfortunately, therapy is not covered by OHIP. However, many extended health benefit plans offer some yearly coverage for psychotherapy services, and I recommend that you check your insurance policy for further details.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellation can be made up to 48 hours before your appointment time.
